Good-bye Windows XP

Microsoft is scheduled to end of life the Windows XP operating system on April 8, 2014.  After that date, Microsoft will no longer release any updates or security patches.  For more information on the end of Windows XP, see the March 2014 edition of OUCH! at http://www.securingthehuman.org/newsletters/ouch/issues/OUCH-201403_en.pdf.

If you haven't yet moved from Windows XP at home, consider doing so soon.

Within the district, Technology Department staff have been in the process for the past year of upgrading all PC-compatible devices to Windows 7.  After April 8, 2014 the minimum OS on a district PC-compatible device must be Windows 7.

For many tech support personnel, XP was the tried-but-true safety net to which we held during the brief Vista tribulations.
